Gallery released version 2.1 recently and I decided to upgrade. The upgrade went smoothly up until the point where my modified splatbang theme was deemed as incompatible. Crap. So pardon the fugly looking photo gallery for the time being…it will eventually get fixed.
Thanks to Dolby’s 9/80 work schedule, I had last Friday off. What better way to spend my day off than moving! A few years back, when we were moving from the Oakland Avenue apartment to The Glen, I came to the realization that we had accumulated way too much crap: desks, computers, hundreds of pounds of home theater equipment, etc. It was a hernia or two waiting to happen so we used movers. I originally wanted to use Delancey Street Movers, but didn’t plan ahead enough and they were booked solid. So we used a smaller, more expensive mover. This time, I called in way in advance and got Delancey. It probably helped that I was moving on a Friday rather than a weekend.
Delancey Street Movers came highly recommended via word of mouth and I can definitely vouch for their hard work and great value. If you need to move, do yourself a favor and give these guys a call. They showed up early, got the paperwork done, and the three guys were moving boxes exactly when the quoted start time was. I didn’t expect them to work as fast as they did and was struggling to box up the last minute items I thought I’d have time to do while they worked.
No move is complete without a bit of drama and my move didn’t disappoint. After the truck was filled to the brim with our worldly possessions, I hopped in my car and headed down Glen Avenue with the truck behind me. Less than half a block down the street, the truck cames to a grinding halt. I pull over and can hear them trying to start the engine, but nothing is happening. As it turns out, the truck is out of gas! The fuel gauge was showing 3/4, but after inspecting the fuel tanks, they were fresh out. The poor guys had to call for their mechanical help team which is based out of the city. That took a while, but there wasn’t much I could do. After all, they’re movers, not mechanics.
Moving into our new place went smoothly save for some excitement getting my couch into the living room. That’s all I’m going to say about that!
Now for the hard part: unpacking, finding everything, and getting settled in.
Eeek, we’re getting bad at remembering to do this! I blame the towers of boxes in the background.
As always, upgrading WordPress was a breeze. After taking the requisite backups in case I munged something up along the way, it took a matter of minutes to get running on version 2.0.2. Yay for software that works!

Yes, we are getting ready to move.
