2/11 ride log
Planned on doing Pinehurst Wildcat with Cal Cycling, but didn’t quite make it. 15.00 miles in 1:14:10. 138 average HRM. 133 estimated average wattage.
I led the charge down Pinehurst with Geo on my wheel. I’ve never been comfortable flinging myself down North Pinehurst but have been getting better at negotiating the upper section above the top hairpin turn. I still can’t quite figure out how to get through that hairpin or the rest of Pinehurst up until the bottom hairpin very quickly. So I take a hideous line through the top hairpin and ease up to laugh at how far I missed the apex. Geo comes around me and I get on his wheel.
We dive into the next tricky right hander and the next thing I see is his front wheel start to slide and a moment later, Geo low-sides onto the deck. I take a moment to evaluate my options at ~25mph: attempt to hold my line and pray that I don’t run him over or go straight over the centerline into the oncoming lane. My reflexes choose the latter and I come to a safe stop near the dirt shoulder on the other side of the road. Friends don’t make friends roadkill, right?
By the way Geo was dangling his right arm, I immediately knew something wasn’t right. Being the tough guy that he is, he gets back on his bike and I accompany him back up Pinehurst. By the top, the adrenaline had worn off and he was clearly in the pain cave. I left him there and hauled home to get the EP3.
Final diagnosis from Kaiser: broken scapula. Get better soon…lay off the malk.

Dear Homer, IOU one emergency donut. Signed Homer. Bastard! Hes always one step ahead.
